Canada had a flag April with regards to work, posting the biggest one month gain in net employments on record. Employment ascended by 107,000 in April, with striking increases in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and Prince Edward Island. The unforeseen bounce in work far outperformed a broadly anticipated increment of 10,000 net employments and helped push Canada’s joblessness rate to 5.7 percent, down marginally from 5.8 in March. Of the net new employments in April, 73,000 were full-time and most of the increases — 84,000 — happened in the private segment. Full-Time Work In Ontario Drove Canadian Employment Gains In February
Employment in Canada was up by nearly 56,000 in February thanks largely to gains in full-time work in Ontario. Statistics Canada’s monthly Labour Force Survey for February showed Ontario posted a net employment gain of 37,000 for the month. An increase of 59,000 in full-time work offset the loss of 22,000 in part-time work in Ontario. Ontario’s unemployment rate remained steady at 5.7 per cent and, year-over-year, employment in Canada’s most populous province increased by 192,000, or 2.7 per cent, over February 2018.
