CRS Drops By Three Points In New Express Entry Draw

Government of Canada invited 3,350 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence in a new draw held June 26.  The cut-off score in today’s draw was 462, which is three points lower than the previous draw held June 12. This was the second consecutive draw to see the cut-off score decrease since May 29, when it reached 470. The Express Entry system is Canada’s main source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic-class immigration categories – the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Eligible candidates under these categories are entered into the Express Entry pool, where they are ranked based…

If You’re In The Express Entry Pool, These Provincial Immigration Streams May Be Looking For You

Ontario, Nova Scotia and Alberta use so-called ‘passive’ immigration streams to search the Express Entry pool for eligible candidates. Candidates who enter the Express Entry pool may find themselves on the receiving end of an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination without even trying thanks to specialized immigration streams in Ontario, Alberta and Nova Scotia.  These streams have recently been used to search the Express Entry pool for candidates who meet specified criteria such as work experience in a specified occupation. Those identified are notified of the province’s interest and invited to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in that province. These immigration pathways are sometimes referred to as…

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program: Key 2018 Changes. Three new Express Entry-linked PNP streams were created in 2018 and others were improved. Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program continued to assert itself as the rising star of Canada’s economic immigration programs in 2018 and is expected to play an even more prominent role in the months ahead.   The Provincial Nominee Program, or PNP, allows participating Canadian provinces and territories to nominate a set number of economic immigrants for permanent residence each year. A portion of these nominations are considered ‘enhanced’ nominations and allow a province or territory to nominate candidates in the federal Express Entry system, which manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s…
